Tragic Accident on the Danube River
A small motor boat collided with a Swiss-based cruise ship on the Danube River near Budapest, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives and leaving five others unaccounted for.
According to authorities, the collision occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, May 20th. The small boat, carrying six people, was struck by the much larger cruise ship.
Hungarian police have detained the captain of the cruise ship for questioning as an investigation into the incident is underway. Search and rescue teams are actively searching the river for the missing individuals.
The cruise ship, owned by a Swiss company, has been identified as the MS Heidelberg. It was carrying approximately 200 passengers and crew members at the time of the collision.
The accident has raised concerns about river safety and the impact of large cruise ships on smaller vessels navigating the same waterways.
