Higher Education Institutions Advocate for Government Funding

The UK's higher education institutions are urging the government to support high-level apprenticeships in the hospitality industry. The institutions argue that these apprenticeships would provide a much-needed boost to the sector, which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A survey of 88 of the UK's top universities revealed that 88% believe that higher and degree apprenticeships are "essential" for the future of the hospitality industry. The survey also found that 92% of universities believe that these apprenticeships would help to improve the quality of service in the sector.

SMEs Can Benefit from 100% Funding

The government has announced that it will be providing 100% funding for ICT and cyber apprenticeships for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This funding will be available for apprenticeships that start on or after 1 April 2022.

The funding will be available to SMEs with fewer than 250 employees. The apprenticeships will cover a range of ICT and cyber skills, including:

  • Software development
  • Cyber security
  • Data analytics
  • Cloud computing

Government Urged to Boost Apprenticeships for Young People

WEB Government is urged to not leave youngest behind this National Apprenticeships Week by boosting.

The government is being urged to do more to support apprenticeships for young people. This call comes as part of National Apprenticeships Week, which is taking place from 7-13 February 2022.

A recent report by the National Audit Office found that the number of apprenticeships started by young people has fallen by 17% since 2015. The report also found that young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are less likely to start an apprenticeship than their more affluent peers.
