Motown Legend, Jackson 5 Member, Dies at 70
Motown Records has announced the death of founding member of the Jackson 5 and brother to Michael Jackson, Marlon Jackson, at the age of 70.
Jackson died in his home on Tuesday from complications related to cancer.
Born in Gary, Indiana, in 1957, Marlon Jackson was the fourth of ten children born to Joseph and Katherine Jackson.
He began his career as a young child, performing with his brothers in the Jackson 5. The group signed with Motown Records in 1968 and went on to become one of the most successful musical acts of all time.
Marlon Jackson played the tambourine and sang backup vocals for the Jackson 5. He also appeared in several of the group's films and television specials.
After the Jackson 5 disbanded in the mid-1970s, Marlon Jackson continued to perform with his brothers in various capacities. He also released several solo albums, including his 1987 self-titled debut.
Jackson was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2021. He underwent surgery and chemotherapy, but the cancer eventually returned.
Jackson's death is a major loss for the music world. He was a talented musician and singer who helped to shape the sound of Motown Records.
